"The previous owners… well, they were a bit eccentric," the inspector had mumbled, carefully avoiding eye contact. Maya, though, had a good feeling about the house. The energy felt right, the bones were solid. She’d bought it because the feeling was right.

She'd been exploring the attic for a week, her fingers tracing the dusty surfaces. And today, finally, she found something. A panel behind a stack of old trunks felt loose, different than the rest. She shoved it, it popped open.

The passage led down into a small room, with a window overlooking the garden. The air was cool and crisp, a welcome change from the stuffy attic. She felt an immediate sense of peace. This was her retreat.

She smiled as she walked into the room. She knew exactly what she was going to do with it. This was going to be the most beautiful reading nook imaginable.
