The loose brick yielded easily, revealing the hidden chamber behind the fireplace. Thomas pushed aside the crumbling mortar and peered into the darkness. A faint metallic gleam caught his eye.

He flipped on his phone’s flashlight, illuminating the space. It was small, but filled with treasures. Old coins, a tarnished silver locket, a small, wooden carving of a bird. He gently picked up the locket and opened it.
