She watered her window box of herbs, the scent of lavender and rosemary filling the air. Amelia hummed a tuneless melody as she carefully pinched off a dead leaf. The morning was quiet except for the distant sounds of children playing. Her phone, tucked into her apron pocket, vibrated softly. "Friend request from... Derek Hanson?" Her fingers brushed across the screen, a sense of detached amusement washing over her. She imagined him, probably still the same overgrown teenager she remembered. She chuckled lightly and kept tending to her plants.
