Gemotions

The quiet of the afternoon was broken only by the chirping of birds outside the window. I was sitting at the piano, idly playing a simple melody. The music filled the room, a gentle companion. The sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air.

A voice, a little unsure but full of feeling, floated from the living room. "The... song... is very nice."

I stopped playing and turned, my shoulders relaxing. There was James, my husband, standing in the doorway, a hopeful expression on his face.

I smiled, a slow, gentle curve of my lips. “Thank you, darling,” I said, and returned to the keys.
