The feel of the cool, smooth stone of the fountain was comforting against Anya's fingertips as she sat by the garden, listening to the water's gentle murmur. The world around her seemed to slow down, and her thoughts stilled. It felt as if nothing else mattered.

A voice, soft but clear, broke her concentration. It was Mr. Lee, his smile kind. "Anya," he said.

She turned to face him. "Hello, Mr. Lee."

"I was thinking…" he began, a touch of shyness in his tone, "about planting some vegetables. I have… I was wondering if I might be able to use a small area of your land. Just a little corner is all I'd need." He felt an inner willingness. "Yes, of course," she said. "Please, make yourselves at home."
