Gemotions

The click of the lock, the squeak of the gate. Emily took a deep breath, ready to start her day. She turned, expecting to see her compact car. There was nothing. The driveway was deserted. She didn't comprehend it, at first. Then it hit her.

Her initial reaction was denial. She took another step, then another, as if trying to magically conjure the vehicle into existence. The realization settled in, a cold, hard knot in her stomach.

She felt a chill, despite the warm morning air. She wrapped her arms around herself, as if to ward off an unseen threat. The world around her seemed to blur. She couldn't focus. She felt lost.
