He’d found it taped to the underside of their bed, hidden from view. A list, penned in his wife, Emily's, distinctive script. "See a Broadway show." He knew her love for theatre, but he'd always imagined that she wouldn’t spend time in the City. She knew how much he disliked the crowds.

He stumbled backwards, knocking against the nightstand. The air seemed heavy, difficult to breathe. He stared at the list, feeling a slow, creeping realization settle over him. He had thought that they shared everything.

He walked to the window, staring out at the street below. He felt a hollowness in his chest, a sense of having missed something vital. He turned back to the bed, to the hidden list, and felt a wave of nausea wash over him.
