Gemotions

The elevator ride felt like an eternity. Each floor, a step further away from the safety, the certainty of her home. The notice in her bag felt heavy and unfamiliar. Once outside, she paused, unable to take a step. Her breath caught in her throat. The thought of the future stretched before her, a vast and confusing landscape.

She fumbled for her keys, the metal cold against her trembling fingers. She unlocked the door and stepped inside, the familiar scent of old books and brewing coffee doing little to calm her. The apartment felt different, somehow smaller, less secure. She felt a deep ache in her chest, a physical manifestation of her disquiet.
