The news felt like a physical blow. A gust of wind seemed to have been knocked out of her. The silver locket, engraved with her grandmother’s initials, was going to be auctioned.

She sat rigidly, unable to move, unable to speak, as her sister rambled on about the financial burdens. Her chest felt constricted, as if a weight were pressing down upon her. She stared blankly at the teacup in her hand.
