The discovery brought a rush of cold air into Maria's lungs. She held the time capsule's lid in her hands, its smooth, cool surface a stark contrast to the sudden, overwhelming heat that coursed through her. A photograph of a smiling young woman, a woman she didn’t recognize, stared back at her.

The image seemed to taunt her, mocking her. She ran her fingers across the edges of the photo, a tremor running through her fingertips. She closed her eyes, trying to recall any fragment of memory that would explain this. Nothing. Only a hollow, echoing silence.

“No…this isn’t right,” she murmured, her voice laced with bewilderment. She took a step back, bumping into the fence. The fence felt wrong. Everything felt wrong, as if she were a character in a play she had never rehearsed.
