The air crackled with an uncharacteristic tension as John carefully lifted the lid. The objects inside were arranged with a precision that bordered on obsessive. A collection of meticulously kept stamps, a sealed letter addressed to 'Myself,' and a small, wooden carving of a bird. He felt a profound disorientation.

A tightening in his chest made him struggle for breath. He sat down heavily on the upturned bucket. He took a deep breath, fighting the sudden urge to run. The script written on the stamps felt like some sort of lie. This couldn't be him.
