The hum of the computer fans was a dull drone in his ears. Michael reread the email, hoping the words would change. They didn't. He closed his eyes, his head throbbing with a dull ache. The room began to spin.

His arms felt like lead, and his eyelids were like heavy curtains. He tried to think, to reason, to formulate a plan, but his mind refused to cooperate. He just felt… depleted.

The thought of going to class, of pretending everything was normal, seemed impossible. He wanted to burrow under the covers, disappear from the world. He wanted the world to disappear with him.
