"Condo, huh?" Maya muttered, staring at the notice taped to her door. Her limbs felt heavy, weighted down. She wanted to crumple back onto the couch, but the thought of the impending eviction, even months away, spurred her into action, kind of. She knew she ought to start looking for new places, but she couldn’t summon the strength to even reach for her phone.

Her head throbbed gently as she forced herself to stand, and the very act of walking to the kitchen was an effort. She poured a bowl of cereal, the milk splashing carelessly over the edge. The taste was bland, the texture unremarkable. Everything felt drained, devoid of interest or satisfaction.

She stared out the window at the bustling street below, a dull ache resonating in her chest. The world was moving at a speed she couldn't match.
