The hammering started before dawn. "Figures," thought Daniel, slamming his pillow over his ears. His neighbor, Brenda, was embarking on a full-scale renovation, transforming her quaint cottage into something…bigger. Something more modern.

Daniel spent the day in his garden. He meticulously pruned his prize-winning roses, each snip precise, each petal examined with intense focus. He weeded with a near-religious zeal, removing every single unwanted sprout.

As the afternoon sun cast long shadows, he watered his flowers, spraying a particularly concentrated stream towards Brenda's partially exposed foundation. He had a faint smile as he returned to his home.
