“A bit of a fixer-upper,” the agent had said. A gross understatement. A murder-suicide, they discovered. The husband, the wife… gone. Daniel, standing in his meticulously decorated living room, felt a cold knot tighten in his gut. The perfect wallpaper, the antique furniture, all seemed to mock him. He now had the irresistible urge to dismantle everything. The walls would be painted in the most lurid shades. He'd replace the elegant chandeliers with gaudy, plastic alternatives. He wanted to desecrate everything about the house.
