He stared at the map on his desk, the vibrant colors of the different states mocking him with their geographical distance. The announcement had been made only hours ago, and already his world felt off-kilter. The familiar weight of the world on his shoulders felt heavier. His throat felt dry, his mouth was tightly shut.

"I need some air," he muttered, grabbing his coat. His friend, Ethan, was moving to Texas. He couldn't quite believe it. They’d planned to start a band, to build a life together. The future he had envisioned now seemed like a fragile, shattered dream.

The city outside, with its noise and bustle, amplified his unease. He walked aimlessly, his steps quick and erratic, the chill wind doing little to soothe the internal storm. He found himself walking around the block, and then he walked around the block again.
