The bank statement landed on the kitchen table like a betrayal. Amelia stared at the crisp white paper, the bold numbers mocking her. Hundreds of dollars, tucked away in an account she knew nothing about. John’s name was printed at the top, his signature a familiar flourish. Heat prickled under her skin.
