Maya felt a familiar knot twist in her stomach. She’d always admired her father’s dedication, his unwavering commitment. She’d also witnessed the slow dimming of his spirit. The letter was a confession of a slow suffocation, a life where dreams were traded for stability.

She reached for her phone, scrolling through job postings, her fingers flying across the screen. The screen illuminated the darkness, but didn't help her see where she belonged. This wasn’t how she wanted her story to unfold.
