Gemotions

"Just the usual," Maria muttered, dropping the stack of mail onto the table. Bills. Flyers. More bills. She was about to toss them into the recycling when she spotted it. A card. Hidden amongst the other items.

Her hands shook slightly as she picked it up. Plain white envelope. Her name in block letters. She opened the card. "Hope your day is special." The handwriting was unfamiliar, small and neat.

A strange warmth spread through her. Her lips parted slightly. Who? The question echoed in her mind. She scanned the room, as if searching for a hidden camera. Her eyes widened, as she considered all the possibilities.

She felt oddly… exposed. She retreated to the bedroom and locked the door. She sat on the edge of the bed and clutched the card to her chest.
