The envelope felt heavy in Amelia's grasp, as if weighted with lead. Her breath hitched as she ripped it open, her fingers clumsy and unresponsive. The stark black text seemed to leap off the page, assaulting her. She’d enjoyed living in this apartment.

Her hands began to shake uncontrollably. She sank down onto the sofa, the plush cushions offering little comfort. The colorful throw pillows seemed to mock her, their cheerful patterns grating against her sudden distress.
