He hadn't been expecting anything like this. John, clearing out his grandfather's study, had been anticipating a collection of dusty books and old pipes. Instead, nestled between a stack of invoices and a worn leather journal, was a letter. It read: “Draft – Resignation from the Ministry of Defence.” He looked at the familiar signature, and his chest tightened.

He sank into the creaky old armchair, the sudden movement causing a small cloud of dust to erupt. His grandfather, the war hero, had wanted to leave the military? The letter spoke of moral compromises and the weight of secrets. The world seemed to shift beneath his feet. He stared at the page, unable to comprehend. The room was spinning.
