A chill ran down Anna’s spine as she absorbed the information. The news was a punch to the gut. The new intern, who had barely graduated from university, was going to be making more than she was.

She thought about the late nights she'd pulled, the extra projects she'd volunteered for, the sacrifices she'd made. But then she pictured the intern's face, the hopeful expression as she learned the ropes. She saw her own younger self.

Anna decided to help. "Come by my desk later," she told the intern after a team meeting. "I have some tips that might come in handy."
