The final meeting. Sarah, his colleague, had just walked out of the manager's office. Liam knew the news. He watched her from afar. She was usually the life of the office, but now he saw her head bowed, her shoulders slumped. He felt a weird, sinking feeling.

He knew how much she wanted the position, the sacrifices she had made. He had seen her dedication, her unwavering commitment.

He felt a sudden, inexplicable tightening in his throat. He couldn't help thinking about the way she always supported him.
