Gemotions

The envelope felt like a stone in Liam's hand. He held it away from himself, like it was a contagious disease. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat against the silence of his apartment.

He tossed the notice onto the counter, then immediately regretted it. He quickly snatched it back up, as if it might disappear. He needed something, anything, to distract him.

He slammed the refrigerator door open, searching for something, anything to calm him. He found a beer and, without thinking, chugged the entire bottle in a few gulps.
