Gemotions

The dust swirled in the air, a fine gray cloud that choked her lungs. She coughed, the sound lost in the grinding of metal against wood. Her chest felt heavy, as though a boulder had been placed upon it.

She had arrived too late. The first walls were already gone. She saw the interior of the house exposed, the bare bones of the place laid open for all to see.

Her legs felt weak. She leaned against a tree, her breath coming in ragged gasps. The destruction continued, relentless and unforgiving.

She looked at the empty space where her bedroom had been, the place where she had spent so many sleepless nights dreaming of a different life. A different world. She felt sick.
