Gemotions

The air buzzed with excitement as the newly married couple took to the dance floor. He was there, of course. I’d known he would be. And, for the first time in what felt like forever, I was genuinely not worried.

His presence no longer filled me with dread, but a kind of lightness. He was talking to some friends, laughing. When our eyes met, he gave a small nod and a smile. He looked… well. At peace, perhaps.

Later, as the DJ spun a song we once loved, I caught myself tapping my foot. This was a day of celebration, of joy. I was here to celebrate love, and I realised I felt… unburdened. The weight of the past seemed to have evaporated. I wanted to sing out loud.
