The afternoon sun cast long shadows across their living room. He was outside, tending to his beloved roses, a task he always seemed to enjoy. She picked up his phone, the one he guarded so closely. She scrolled through the call history. A single name, repeated. Her hands began to tremble. Her breath caught in her throat. She looked up, watching him through the window. He was humming quietly, meticulously pruning a rosebush. She felt a lightness in her chest. She put the phone down, and grabbed her gardening gloves. She would join him.
