The small apartment was quiet, the silence almost deafening. Maria stared at the ceiling, replaying the argument about a cat in her head. Her roommate, Alex, was still in the bedroom, avoiding any contact.

She rolled over and stared at the framed photo of her family on the bedside table. She found solace in their faces. This morning, she appreciated the simple pleasures of her life: the warmth of the sun through the window, the soft comfort of her bed, and, above all, the friends and family she had.

She got out of bed and walked to the kitchen, deciding to make breakfast. Maybe a familiar, comforting routine would help to break the ice.
