He stared at the email, the words blurring slightly. A wave of unease rippled through him, but it quickly subsided. The company was changing hands. The news had spread like wildfire through the office. He hadn't yet heard what the deal was.

He thought of the regular paycheck, the health insurance, the opportunities he'd been given. He was grateful for the chance he’d been given to build a career. He'd never really thought about it, but now he was keenly aware of how much he appreciated it.

He pushed his chair back and gazed out the window. The world looked brighter than usual. He felt a quiet, gentle joy, as though all was well. He looked forward to his dinner, and the evening.
