Gemotions

A wave of heat flushed over Daniel as he spotted it. He ran the rest of the way to the pawn shop and stood in front of the window, pressing his nose against the glass, ignoring the damp chill of the November air. The afternoon sun glinted off the familiar setting. The emerald eyes stared up at him, just as he remembered from his childhood.

He burst through the door, nearly knocking over a precariously balanced stack of DVDs. “I need to see that ring,” he blurted out to the woman behind the counter, barely containing the surge of exhilaration. He practically vibrated with anticipation.

"Which one, honey?" she drawled, her voice thick with the smoke from the cigarette dangling from her lips. He gestured wildly towards the case. His hands felt tingly. He pictured the ring, back on his own finger. The family history, the sentimentality, it was all there.
