The moment Amelia saw the ring, a jolt, like a tiny electric shock, went through her. She felt like she could leap over the display case. It was a tangible piece of her past, a connection to a woman who had taught her everything. The setting, she recognized it immediately. She'd spent countless hours at her grandmother's side, watching her fingers dance over the piano keys, the ring flashing in the sunlight.

Her legs felt like they were moving on their own as she made her way towards the counter. She wanted to shout, but all that came out was a quiet, "Excuse me…" The shop felt suddenly smaller, the dim light brighter. She could barely contain the grin that threatened to split her face.

The shop owner, a large man with a receding hairline, grunted and looked up from a newspaper. Amelia pointed, her hand shaking a little. “That ring… I need to see it.”
