Gemotions

He hummed as he carefully selected a mug from the kitchen cabinet. He needed a good one for tonight’s hot chocolate. The house smelled just as he remembered; cinnamon and a hint of something floral, probably his mother’s latest potpourri experiment. A broad smile stretched across his face, and he ran a hand through his hair, a gesture he hadn't realized he was doing.

He’d almost forgotten how comfortable this place was. He was practically vibrating with a feeling that was close to elation as he surveyed the kitchen. He could almost feel the peace settling in already. He settled in, ready for the evening ahead.

"David, are you unpacking or just… absorbing the atmosphere?" His father's voice, gravelly but warm, caused him to jump slightly.

“Both!” he declared with a laugh, already halfway through planning a movie night.
