The scent of freshly baked bread hit her the moment she stepped inside, a sensory trigger that brought a silly grin to her face. She closed the door behind her, the soft click echoing in the spacious entry. It felt like coming home. Really coming home. She was almost giddy, her hands tingling as she considered the possibilities.

“Welcome back, sweetie!” Her father’s voice, full of love, caused a shiver of delight. He was already at the bottom of the stairs, arms open wide.
