His hands wouldn’t stop shaking. He stuffed them into his pockets to try and hide the trembling, but it was no use. Each sentence, each accusation hurled at him by the ethics board, was a shot of pure adrenaline. The fluorescent lights of the room seemed brighter than usual.

He had expected this, planned for it, carefully set it up. Now, it was unfolding perfectly. The professor’s voice, usually a dull monotone, was unusually animated, her words sharp, angry.

He leaned back in his chair, trying to appear nonchalant, as he ran through the events in his head, relishing the moment.
