The world felt brighter, sharper, more alive. Amelia grinned, practically radiating joy. "He said yes!" she whispered to herself. The proposal! He actually said yes! She wanted to scream it from the rooftops. She quickly tapped out a message, wanting to share her glee with her sister: "I'm engaged! Ahhhhh!" She hit send and immediately started picturing the wedding, the dress, the flowers. Then, her smile froze. "Dad."

Her cheeks burned. Her stomach twisted. He was going to have a heart attack. He'd worry about the finances, the timing, everything. She could almost hear his disapproval echoing in her head. She had to call him immediately and explain. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing pulse, then scrolled to his contact and tapped the call button.
