Gemotions

A wave of pure, unadulterated pleasure washed over him. His body was buzzing. He stared at the email, the words on the screen blurring slightly. He’d won! The contest! He was going on the trip of a lifetime! He fumbled for his phone, his fingers clumsy with energy, composing a text to his brother: “I won! Woohoo! Gonna be gone for a month!” Then, his eyes landed on the contact name: “Pastor Davis.”

He sank back in his chair, a look of dismay crossing his features. Pastor Davis would be bewildered and probably concerned. He wasn’t sure how to explain his celebratory message to his religious leader. He imagined the inevitable sermon on the dangers of excessive joy. He sighed heavily, the energy momentarily draining from him. He would have to explain himself immediately.
