The news hit Tom like a shot of adrenaline. As Mark described the new job in London, Tom’s body became a hive of activity. He tapped his foot, he bounced on the couch, he ran his hands through his hair repeatedly. He struggled to maintain a semblance of calm. "London, huh?" he managed, his voice slightly strangled.

He thought of his apartment, the things they shared, the things that wouldn't be his anymore. He found the prospect intoxicating. He pictured himself, a single man again, free to do whatever, whenever. His grin was practically splitting his face in two. He let out a silent whoop, only to quickly cover his mouth.
