Eliza fidgeted as her brother, Finn, opened his inheritance: a chain of successful, albeit boring, laundromats. She, on the other hand, was handed a small, leather-bound journal. It was unremarkable. Until she opened it.

The pages were filled with coded messages, strange symbols, and maps. Her heart raced, her fingers tracing the faded ink. She felt a jolt of energy, a sudden, electric charge. She glanced at Finn, who was already on his phone, likely looking at the laundromat’s profits. He wouldn't care.

She imagined herself decoding the secrets, the adventures, the hidden treasures. She gripped the journal tightly, her knuckles white.

She couldn’t stop grinning.
