The postman knocked, depositing a bouquet of red roses on the doorstep of her small apartment. No card accompanied them. Maya's eyes widened, her hands flying to her cheeks. She was suddenly hot, her skin prickling with warmth. She brought the roses inside, cradling them like a newborn.

She twirled in a circle, the roses held high. A mischievous grin played on her lips. She dashed to the mirror, smoothing down her hair, suddenly self-conscious. She hadn't felt this… energized in months.
