Gemotions

The office Christmas party was a charade. He felt a constant pressure to keep up appearances, to feign enthusiasm. He forced a smile, as he made small talk with his colleagues. Each forced conversation was like another weight on his shoulders. He felt an intense desire to escape.

The music seemed grating, the laughter hollow. He stood by the bar, nursing a drink he didn't want, watching his rival, Susan, work the room with effortless grace. She seemed utterly at ease, while he was stuck.

He felt a sudden need for fresh air. He walked out of the building. The cold night air hit him like a physical blow. He stood, and stared at the building.
