The text message pinged, and Maya snatched up her phone, practically devouring the words. "Meet me at the park, ten minutes?" Her stomach did a flip. She was finally going to meet him! This was almost too surreal.

She threw herself into action. She sprinted through her apartment, tossing aside anything that didn't meet her rigorous standards. She grabbed a comb, ran it through her hair twice, and then decided to just let it be. Perfect.

She grabbed her keys and dashed out the door, her heart hammering a frantic rhythm against her ribs. She practically flew down the stairs and out into the sun. The world was brighter, sharper, more vibrant than she had ever remembered.
