Liam was pacing. He’d told her, of course, that he’d be home late, helping a colleague. But he wasn’t helping a colleague; he’d been practicing. For hours.

The door clicked open, and there she was, his wife, Maria, her dark hair pulled back in a loose bun. He took a deep breath.

"Hola, mi amor," he began, his voice surprisingly steady. "Como estas?"

Maria’s eyebrows shot up. Her jaw dropped slightly. He practically vibrated with an inner power. The corner of his mouth twitched upwards as she, after a moment of surprised silence, responded in Spanish. The game was on.
