The envelope, unopened, lay on the worn wooden table. Rain lashed against the windowpane, mirroring the storm that had once raged within her. She picked it up, her fingers tracing the faded ink of the address. Curiosity, she admitted, had finally overcome the years of icy indifference.

She ripped it open, the paper tearing easily. Words spilled onto the table like a confession. A slow smile crept across her face as she read. It began as a small movement, a slight upturn of her lips, and it blossomed into a full, genuine expression.
