The silence in the art studio was deafening. Amelia picked up a brush, then slammed it down on the table, splattering paint across the canvas. Mr. Sterling, her mentor, had simply vanished, leaving behind only a note taped to his easel: "Moving on." Her mind raced, replaying their final conversation, searching for clues, for any hint of his impending departure. She felt a persistent tightness in her throat, a physical manifestation of the turmoil churning within her. The bright colors of the studio suddenly seemed garish, the space suffocating.
