The silence in the library felt oppressive. He sat, pretending to study, but the words blurred before his eyes. The textbooks seemed to mock him, the facts and figures irrelevant in the face of the monumental shift in his life. He felt a constant clenching in his jaw.

He slammed his book shut, the sound drawing disapproving glances from nearby students. He wanted to shout, scream, anything to release the pressure building inside. He felt a wave of nausea.

He buried his face in his hands, picturing their favorite spot in the park, the scent of the trees, the sound of her laughter. All of it now felt like a distant memory.
