The bus rumbled down the street. Marcus saw it as he crossed the intersection: a woman, waiting at the crosswalk, sporting his signature koi fish on her upper arm. He stopped, frozen mid-step.

The air felt thin, difficult to breathe. He stared at the tattoo, a perfect rendering of his work. He felt an intense… unease. He suddenly hated the way his shoes felt on the pavement.

The woman glanced up, their eyes met briefly, then she smiled and turned away. He quickly crossed the street. He didn't know what to do.
