He listened from the hallway, his hand gripping the doorframe. The words flowed effortlessly, a stark contrast to his own halting attempts to learn. His palms began to sweat.

Later, when she emerged from the room, he confronted her, feigning casualness. She met his eyes, a strange, unreadable expression on her face. The room felt suddenly too small. The silence was deafening.
