Gemotions

The doorbell rang, startling David so badly he almost dropped his coffee. He peered through the peephole. Nobody. He opened the door cautiously. On the mat lay a card – a pristine, untouched card. His birthday was next week.

He picked it up, feeling a tremor in his hand. He went back inside and locked the door behind him. He didn’t recognize the handwriting on the envelope.

He tore the envelope open. The card inside was blank. His pulse quickened. He started pacing, then sat down on the edge of the couch, unable to stop himself from staring at the card. He suddenly felt a sense of dread he couldn't explain.
