Gemotions

The restaurant was packed, the tables close together. Maria shifted uncomfortably in her seat, the crisp white tablecloth suddenly seeming oppressive. She'd been waiting for David, who was running late. She hated waiting. She had just finished texting him, when she saw a familiar figure at the bar, laughing and chatting with another woman. It was him.

Maria’s breath caught in her throat. The woman had her back to Maria, but her laughter was unmistakably David’s. The feeling had been building all day, a niggling doubt in the back of her mind that she hadn't been able to dismiss. Now, seeing David with another woman, this doubt blossomed into a full-blown sensation of dread.

She felt a tremor in her hands. She squeezed her eyes shut. She wasn’t sure how long she could keep this up. She glanced at the door, and then she looked at David at the bar. She picked up her purse and quickly walked out, the image of David's face burned into her memory.
