“Well, this is… something,” Mark mumbled, his voice tight. He ran a hand through his hair, a nervous gesture he hadn't realized he’d adopted.

The house felt like it was holding its breath. Every footstep echoed with an unnerving resonance. The old wallpaper seemed to be peeling, revealing what looked like a dark stain underneath. He kept looking over his shoulder, as if someone was following him.

He caught his reflection in a dusty mirror and blinked. He looked pale, almost sick. He needed some air, a walk outside. He hoped his sister would hurry.
